What I Wore: The Greenbrier Edition

As an academic, clothes seem like such a shallow topic but what can I say, I love love a good outfit. My motto is you look good you feel good. Clothes can give such an amazing confidence boost.

And particularly in a space like The Greenbrier, America's Resort, I know as a black woman I am likely to stand out and to avoid any unnecessary questions, I made a conscious effort about what I wore.

The dress code for the hotel is resort wear with some restaurants and activities requiring men to wear a blazer or sport coat and a tie.

I throughly enjoyed playing dress up for our week at the resort.

I tried as much as possible to wear black owned designers because I think when it comes to resort wear they are producing some of most creative designs in the fashion.

I never leave home without something from Farm Rio, I love their ethos and mission and their clothes I think most align with my island girl spirit.

My wonderful hubby got me into Senegalese designer Diarrablu last Christmas and I think her dresses scream "meet me on vacation" with their easy breezy fabrics.

I recently discovered Fanm Mon and I can say I am OBSESSED! The embroidery on her dresses are so meticulous and the linen literally feels like LOVE on a summer day. I can't wait to save my pennies to add more of her delightful dresses to my closet.

I discovered British/Ghanian designer Sika two summers ago and the quality of her batik is unmatched. The one thing you have to remember is that the sizing is UK sizing when you shop. Her dresses always give me professional princess vibes.

Andrea Iyamah is my go to for swimsuits these days. Her swimsuits and coverups scream statement on the beach or at the pool and I am a huge fan.

My other go to sites for staples are Asos and Anthropologie.

While I like designer clothes, I love designer on a budget. I have become a pro at coupons and catching stuff on sale.
