Durham in the spring is a dream.
We headed to Durham for Easter Weekend 2022 to catch Chris Rock in concert at the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC).
I have always loved downtown Durham, its a compact, walkable city filled with murals, charming bistros and photo ops galore. It is a quintessential southern city with a twist of modernity.
If you are in town to catch a show at DPAC, I would always suggest staying at the Aloft Durham Downtown which is adjacent to the performing arts center, so no need to worry about parking or walking a mile in high heels.
The Aloft was affordable, modern, comfortable and had impeccable service. We also had an amazing view of both DPAC and the downtown cityscape from our window.
While Chris Rock didn't disappoint, he wasn't the highlight of my weekend. Quite strolls around the city enjoying the budding spring while battling my allergies is a memory I will always take with me.
My Durham suggestions include:
DO walk around downtown, the nooks and crannies will surprise you
DO make reservations for dinner at COPA - if you love Cuban food, this is the place for you. Our meals were simply spectacular.
DO visit the Tobacco District, the refurbished Lucky Strike Tobacco Factory is the perfect Sunday afternoon hang out, complete with restaurants, green spaces, a train station and the most beautiful aqueduct.
DO visit the stunning campus of Duke University and the adjacent Sarah Duke Gardens that are simply spectacular in the spring.
Have you been to Durham? What are your favorite spots?
