Vacation Vibes : Grenada

In December 2021 I hit a travel milestone, I visited my 40th country: Grenada.

Grenada is located in the southern West Indies and known as 'The Spice Isle'. The island is also famous for their cultivation and export of spices like cinnamon, turmeric and cloves among others.

Pandemic travel has been so nerve wracking but Grenada's COVID-19 measures made me comfortable about taking a pre-Christmas trip with my mom.

Our last mother-daughter trip was to Cambodia in the summer of 2017 and it seemed like eons ago.

Grenada was just what the doctor ordered after a stressful semester, the country exemplified sunshine, relaxation and cultural exploration.

In a nutshell, Grenada was spectacular. Christmas in the Caribbean is a vibe, the people, the revelry, the food. It's an almost indescribably feeling.

We stayed at the newly renovated Royalton: Grenada and even though the hotel was at 50% capacity, it felt as if we were on our own little island oasis. The hotel took Covid protocols very seriously with masking in public areas, constant checking of temperatures and hand sanitizing. We were definitely wrapped in what felt like a COVID-free bubble.

Royalton Grenada is all inclusive which meant that all the meals, alcohol and entertainment are included for one flat rate. However, staying at an all inclusive hotel doesn't preclude you from enjoying the flora, fauna and spices of Grenada

Do:

  • Get a local driver to take a tour of the island. Tripadvisor is the perfect place to source local drivers.

  • Visit Annadale Falls, on Sundays you may just have the entire experience to yourself.

  • Visit the Grand Etang Lake and don't forget to look out for the Mona monkeys.

  • Stop in town for some local street side cuisine, we definitely indulged in coconut water and fruits.
