Lynchburg Business's Top 20 Under 40

Summer 2022 is shaping up to be one of surprises.

The latest one is being named to Lynchburg Business Magazine's Top 20 Under 40.

The magazine annually compiles a list of the "young professionals who are rising stars in their industries and active community volunteers" in Lynchburg.

I am honored and flattered at being on a list with so many movers and shakers in the city, and with some of my favorite Leadership Lynchburg 45 classmates.

I love being immersed in my community and never really expect recognition for the work I do, after all, I don't do any of this work in isolation, on campus I have a wonderful faculty and staff that help to support the my efforts in the classroom.

And in the Lynchburg community, I serve at the pleasure of the wonderful boards of the Link Project, the Legacy Museum of African History, the Central Virginia Academy for Nonprofit Excellence and the Pierce Street Gateway.

So much of the work I am able to do is supported by amazing volunteers who help to execute the vision and missions of the organizations and I couldn't be more pleased with the impact we have been able to make and I look forward to continuing to be of service.

More importantly I couldn't do any of it without my family who have been my forever cheerleaders and support system as I try to be a change agent in my community.

So many times academia seems like a revolving door of research and teaching, semester after semester. I am so glad I have been able to combine all of my passions and create my own path for what it means to be an academic.

The chaos, The meetings, The volunteers, The classes, The media, The fundraising. I love it all, This is my #PHDLife!
