Life in the Burg: London Salt Spa

Last November, my bestie and I participated in a winter coat drive hosted by the London Salt Spa, as part of the reward, the spa handed out 45 minute spa gift certificates complete with salt hand scrubs.

Neither bestie or I could bring ourselves to venture out to New London in the winter but now that it has warmed up and had a bit of free time we decided to make the 30-minute drive. The concept of a salt spa dumbfounded us a bit after all having previously visited, we had no idea if the spa was just a room or underground cave.

The staff at the spa do show an introductory video extolling the merits of salt spas and their long history.

Located in a simple homey structure, the spa itself is a room filled with wall to wall Himalayan salt bricks, a floor filled with salt crystals, mood lighting and piping relaxation music through the surround sound speakers.

I will admit we spent the first few minutes in the spa, exploring the walls, digging our sock covered toes in the salt covered floors, taking photos and giggling like teenagers as we struggled to understand the merits of a salt room.

However, soon enough we settled down into our reclining chairs, nestled under our plaid blankets and let the salt and relaxing melody of the music lull us into a state of mindful meditation.

At the end of the 45 minutes I can't say we are fully salt spa converts but we would be willing to give it another try. I will say I left the spa a lot more relaxed than I entered.

P.S. Make an appointment to go to the spa, their slots fill up pretty quickly.

P.S.S. While bestie and I were alone, the spa room can hold at least 10 patrons at a time. So be sure to enquire about availability.
